Bed & breakfast
by Duncan MacKellar
I'm a rabbit and I'm living in a hutch,
It's not quite a palace as such.
It wouldn't suit a toff,
But it keeps the rain off,
It's homely and I like it very much.
It's small and sometimes very chilly,
They must have thought a door would be silly.
It could use a lick of paint
But there's no cause for complaint,
I don't want it to be fussy or frilly.
I think the guest before me was a hound,
I keep finding old bones he's left around.
My room is poorly lit,
But I don't mind a bit,
It's better than living underground.
If they offered me a cushion I'd be glad,
I'd have the best night's sleep I've ever had.
The ground is hard and bumpy,
My mattress is lumpy
But all things considered, it's not bad.
Before too long I'll get a bite to eat,
If it's a carrot , I'll jump and clap my feet.
Bed and breakfast is fine
But give me breakfast every time,
The food here is really hard to beat.
So while they keep me warm and feed me well,
I may decide to stay here for a spell.
But if the standards fall,
I'll be over the garden wall
To find another, more suitable, hotel.
