I could do better
by Duncan MacKellar
You'd think I was a wise old bird,
I'm an owl, so I must be clever.
That's wrong and totally absurd,
I've never been clever, not ever!
All the other owls are good at sums,
They learned to read and write.
I can't add up on fingers or thumbs,
Morning, noon or night.
Two ones are two or is it three?
I don't know which number to choose.
I can't remember my A B C,
I don't know my don'ts from my do's.
When I have to make a decision,
I never know what to do.
If I'm asked to make a suggestion,
I just say, "T'wit, T'woo".
This isn't the way an owl ought to be,
I should have much more knowledge.
I'm going to work hard and get a degree
At The Wise Owl Training College.
I'll try to pay more attention
And learn as much as I may.
With luck and the best of intention,
I'll be a wise old owl, one day.
