I like it here
by Duncan MacKellar
I'm here in my bowl and it makes me glad
To swim back and forth all the day.
If I'm bored with the view
Or need something to do,
I turn around and swim the other way.
Some fish I know say they need more space,
They prefer to be with others in a shoal.
I don't want to be at sea,
I just want to be
A little fish, in a very large bowl.
It might be the fashion to go with the flow
Or swim head to tail in a string.
Catfish, flatfish,
This fish and that fish
All want to do the same thing.
But that's not for me, I like it here,
The others might be easily led.
I'd rather be a pet
Than be caught in a net,
While sleeping on a river bed.
I'm a very old fish in a goldfish bowl,
Without any worries or troubles.
You can swim in the sea
But it wouldn't suit me,
I'm happy right here, blowing bubbles.
